The Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services has proposed regulations that will govern how Applied Behavior Analysis is authorised and reimbursed under NJ FamilyCare. Autism New Jersey submitted detailed comments urging the Division to align the rules with the clinical standards already used by commercial plans.
Our comments focus on three points: authorisation periods long enough to allow meaningful treatment, no requirement for specific assessment tools before funding begins, and clear appeal timelines when services are denied.
We will update this article when the final rules are published. In the meantime, families enrolled in NJ FamilyCare who have questions about ABA coverage can call the Helpline at 800.4.AUTISM.
